Mondays – Fridays, 8:00am – 11:00am. Each lesson is 30 minutes long.
NO LESSONS JULY 3-4
You must be a member of the Wheeler Pool to participate in swim lessons.
Our teaching staff and guards are thoughtful instructors who care deeply about creating a safe and supportive learning environment for every child. Thank you for your patience as our staff completes evaluations using Red Cross guidelines to carefully determine each swimmer’s appropriate level. Swim evaluations for level placement will take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. Evaluations are intended only for families who are unsure of their swimmer’s level and would like staff assistance with class placement.
During swim lessons, anyone not actively participating in lessons at that time is prohibited from the main pool deck. The grassy area and wading pool area may still be used.
Children may only swim during their assigned lesson time slot; swimmers may not switch or drop in to another class for convenience. Guests will not be permitted to swim in the pool during swim lessons.
Weekday swim lessons will begin Monday, June 29, 2026 and run through Friday, July 31, 2026, with no lessons July 3, 2026. All weekday swim classes meet five days per week, Mondays through Fridays. Each lesson is 30 minutes between 8:00am and 11:00am. Every Friday is “Game Day”: the first portion of the lesson will follow the regular instructional format, and the final 15–20 minutes will be devoted to supervised games and activities.
Class assignments and schedules for all participants will be finalized after optional swim evaluations are completed. Each participant will be assigned a specific time slot.
This year, we are excited to pilot introductory Saturday swim lessons for children who are learning to swim. These lessons will take place on five Saturday mornings from June 27 through August 1, 2026, with no lesson on July 4.
Unlike weekday swim lessons, guardians will be required to accompany their children in the water during Saturday lessons. These sessions are intended for beginner swimmers and will focus on water comfort, basic skills, and introductory swim instruction.
Additional details, including lesson times and registration information, will be shared separately.
For your child to be eligible for swim lessons, a neighborhood family membership or a wildcard family membership is required. Furthermore, individuals must reside at your address to be included in your membership. Please refer to our membership options for more detailed information.
(Approved by the Board - November 6, 2013)
Children must be 4 years old by June 1 to take part in swim lessons. Children who turn 4 years in June, July, or August of that summer may test to be an exception. All children in lessons must be toilet trained.
The pool must be closed and lessons must be cancelled in the event of prolonged thunder or contaminated water. Notice of cancellation will be posted on the Wheeler Homepage and email notifications will be sent as soon as possible, once cancellation has been determined. Please check the website first if the skies look threatening. There are no make-up lessons.
Thunderstorm Safety: The pool will be cleared when the guard on duty hears thunder and will remain cleared for 20 minutes before swimmers are allowed to re-enter. Each time thunder is heard, the 20-minute timer is reset.
